SAFN in Washington, DC, Welcomes New Research Associates from Sri Lanka and India

Washington, DC (December 7th, 2024) – The South Asia Foresight Network (SAFN), an initiative under the Millennium Project, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ishini Shashipraba and Shagun Thapliyal as Research Assciates. Their research expertise will contribute to SAFN’s growing body of research especiallly to its newly established Belt and Road Initiative(BRI) Center.

In 2024, Ishini Shashipraba joined the Millennium Project – South Asia Foresight Network in Washington, D.C., as a Research Intern from Sri Lanka. In this role, her research focused on Asian geopolitics and its socio-economic implications in an international context. Her work on Sri Lanka Presidential Election 2024: Political Economic Analysis with extensive field research, published prior to the election accurately forecasted the victory of the present regime in Sri Lanka. Ishini has read for an LLB at the University of London. She has received a scholarship from the Cfps Law School in Sri Lanka. Ishini is passionately committed to making a significant contribution to her field and has published articles addressing pressing issues in Sri Lankan society. She is actively involved with legal rights movements in Sri Lanka, advocating for the rights and interests of individuals across the nation.

Shagun Thapliyal joined South Asia Foresight Network in Washington, D.C., as a Research Intern from India. She is an Early Career Research focusing on the realm of International Relations. She holds a Masters Degree in Diplomacy, Law and Business from OP JINDAL GLOBAL UNIVERSITY, India and a Bachelors Degree in History from University of Delhi, India. Her work focuses on often-overlooked aspects of global affairs and contemporary challenges to foster an understanding of the global dynamics and propose solution-oriented strategies. She has conducted independent research on the pillars of Soft Power such as Sports, media, Popular culture and the role and influence of international organizations, security alliances and regional groupings in maintaining global stability.
