November 22nd 2023, Washington DC. Asanga Abeyagoonasekera, the Executive Director at the South Asia Foresight Network (SAFN) under the Millennium Project in Washington DC, was appointed on the 17th of November, 2023, as a Senior Research Fellow(Honourary) by the German Southeast Asian Center for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG) at Thammasat University – Faculty of Law in Bangkok, Thailand.
The fellowship was awarded to Asanga Abeyagoonasekera due to his outstanding contribution from his area of expertise, which is geopolitics and international relations. His recent book ‘Teardrop Diplomacy’ published by Bloomsbury, received considerable scholarly attention from distinguished scholars and institutes, including the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore. CPG considered Abeyagoonasekera as a South Asia expert with unique experience at government and regional research institutes who could contribute to the Southeast Asian Center for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG).
CPG Senior Research Fellow, which is an honourary position, is offered to personalities who have cooperated with the institute in an outstanding way and are representing specific expertise in areas of CPG’s key activities. Senior Research Fellows engage in key projects, facilitating collaborative studies, engaging with policymakers, stakeholders, and other partners on behalf of CPG and representing CPG.
CPG Senior Fellows include former foreign minister of Thailand, H. E. Kasit Piromya, former senior state minister of finance in Japan, H.E. Yukihisa Fujita, Dr. Christopher Ankersen, Clinical Professor of Global Affairs at New York University and several other distinguished scholars.
