Introducing SAFN Latest Report: Sri Lanka Presidential Election 2024: Political and Economic Analysis

We are pleased to announce the release of our comprehensive report, Sri Lanka Presidential Election 2024: Political and Economic Analysis. Launched on September 9, 2024, at the National Press Club, this critical study provides an in-depth examination of Sri Lanka’s political and economic landscape as the country approaches its pivotal presidential election on September 21, 2024.

The launch event was moderated by Poonam Sharma, Chief Editor of GSVgraced along with distinguished speakers, including:

  • Jerome C. Glenn, Co-Founder of the Millennium Project
  • Asanga Abeyagoonasekera, Executive Director of SAFN
  • Ishini Shashipraba, Co-Author and Research Assistant at SAFN

SAFN report draws from extensive Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with a diverse array of stakeholders, including academics, journalists, politicians, and civil society leaders. Utilizing qualitative methods and scenario analysis, the report offers a thorough understanding of Sri Lanka’s current political economy.

Key findings include insights into democratic contraction, economic instability, the potential roles of political alternatives, and the importance of strategic foreign relations. The report emphasizes the need for urgent reform and provides actionable recommendations to navigate the prevailing ‘polycrisis’ affecting Sri Lanka.
